District I Representative Sandra Blake is seeking community members and government employees to serve on a Child Protection Subcommittee charged with developing proposed revisions to Title 8, Chapter 13 (Child Protection).

On June 10, 2020, the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Band Assembly approved Legislative Order 28-20, which establishes a process for draft legislation and empowers any District Representative to formulate a subcommittee consisting of "Band members and employees who have direct knowledge of the subject matter of the draft legislation."

The subcommittee will consist of an undetermined number of volunteers. Community members and government employees seeking to serve on the committee should contact Representative Blake directly no later than Friday, July 31, via email at sandi.blake@millelacsband.com.

A revised draft of Title 8, Chapter 13 is currently being worked on internally by the Band Assembly. This draft will be provided to the subcommittee for further revisions once the subcommittee has been formed. Also, the final draft produced by this subcommittee will be posted for comment in accordance with Legislative Order 28-20.
