By Brett Larson, June 4, 2015

Anishinaabe Immersion Camp will be held June 23-25 at the Mille Lacs Band’s Rutledge Immersion Grounds. The camp is open to students currently in grades 6 through 12.

The three-day overnight camp is designed to help bring a better understanding of the Anishinaabe language, traditions, and culture to the students of East Central, Hinckley, Minisnaakwaang, McGregor, Nay Ah Shing, Isle, and Onamia. Some of the activities will include learning to introduce yourself in Ojibwe. You will need to know your Ojibwe name, if you have been given one, and your clan. Some of the other activities include learning conversational Ojibwe, speaking with MLB Elders, swimming, canoeing, lacrosse, beadwork, and Arts & Crafts.

Students who need a ride should meet at 9 a.m. at the District 1 Community Center, District 2 Community Center, District 2A Community Center, or District 3 Community Center.

Transportation will be provided from the Centers to Rutledge.

Spots for overnight campers are limited. If you have any questions you can call Byron Ninham at 320-362-1023 or Chris Nayquonabe at 320-532-6839.
