Aanjibimaadizing Tutor DII (Part-Time)

SUMMARY:
The Aanjibimaadizing Tutor will provide support in and out of the classroom and is responsible for leading one-on-one or small group lessons that cater to the needs and goals of their students. The Aanjibimaadizing Tutor will use a variety of soft skills and specialized academic knowledge to provide the most comprehensive help they can. This includes thorough knowledge of specific academic subjects and expertise in test preparation as well as creativity and flexibility in order to personalize their learning approach for individual students. The Aanjibimaadizing Tutor will focus on students Kindergarten through 12th grade.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• A Bachelor’s degree in education/vocational or a similar field is required.
• Minimum of three (3) years prior experience in the education/vocational field is required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience required.
• A valid, current Minnesota teacher’s license is required.
• Understanding of Native American culture and ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity is required, three (3) years working in Native American communities is preferred.
• Must adhere to confidential information in accordance with Data Privacy Act.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft office systems.
• Ability to effectively read and understand reports, memorandums, policy & procedures.
• Ability to teach and/or facilitate individuals or groups of youth.
• Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others is required.
• Must have a current valid driver’s license, reliable personal transportation, proof of current insurance and insurability under the Band’s Automobile Insurance Policy.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
• This position is grant funded and is dependent upon the continued funding of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe’s P.L. 102-477 grants program.
• Must have current valid driver’s license.
• Must be insurable under the Mille Lacs Band Drivers Insurance policy.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
• Background investigation required that shows no theft or fraud above a misdemeanor, no felony drug conviction and no sexual or crimes-against-a-person conviction at any level.
• A staff person with direct contact with or access to children in care must disclose the arrest, conviction, and applicant background information if that staff person:
(a) has a conviction of, has admitted to, has an adjudication of delinquency for, has been charged and is awaiting trial for, or a preponderance of the evidence indicates the person has committed:
1) a crime against a child;
2) an act of physical or sexual abuse;
3) neglect;
4) a felony;
5) the same or similar crimes as those in this subsection listed in the laws of another state or of the United States or of any Tribal law;
(b) has a conviction of, has admitted to, has an adjudication of delinquency for, has been charged and is awaiting trial for, or a preponderance of the evidence indicates the person has committed any misdemeanor offense under Federal, State, or Tribal law involving crimes of violence; sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, contact or prostitution; crimes against persons; or offenses committed against children. The Licensing Committee may evaluate the nature and time of a misdemeanor assault charge as well as other types of misdemeanor crimes not specified in this section to determine whether employment is appropriate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work independently with students and student groups.
• Assist other Aanjibimaadizing staff members.
• Review various classroom topics and assignments.
• Work with students to help them understand key concepts, homework, research and other academic tasks.
• Motivate students to sustain class attendance and improve their performance.
• Work in collaboration with local schools, other Aanjibimaadizing programs and various Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe departments.
• Represent the Aanjibimaadizing program while working with students throughout the community.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Hours may vary depending on departmental needs and will include evenings and weekends.
• Nature of work is such that Tutor experiences occasional period of moderate stress levels.
• Work is exclusively indoors in a controlled climate area with little threat of personal danger or risk.
• Local travel is required. Limited travel out of state travel may be required.
